Reiki is an energy healing technique. It was developed in the early 20th century in Japan and involves the practitioner placing their hands on or near the client's body. The intention is to direct healing energy to the areas where the client needs it to help bring things back into balance, whether mentally, physically or spiritually, and to encourage the body's own natural healing ability. There is no physical manipulation involved and the client remains fully clothed throughout.
Will Reiki work for me? There is a good chance it will but as everyone reacts differently no guarantees can be given. Certainly, most clients feel much more relaxed after a session and also notice other benefits.
What happens when I book? When you book you will be sent a copy of our Information leaflet outlining our service and what to expect from a Reiki session plus a map and directions on how to get here. This is also a good time to let us know if you have any physical issues that may need to be taken into consideration, e.g.mobility issues, so we can make your session as comfortable as possible.
What happens during an appointment? The Reiki session takes place either lying on a massage table or sitting in a chair, depending on your needs and preference. You remain fully clothed throughout, only needing to remove shoes, while the Reiki energy is directed where needed. The treatment is gentle and non-invasive, usually beginning at the head and ending at the feet. Afterwards there is the chance to discuss anything you might have experienced during the session and to receive feedback.
Sessions typically last from 40 minutes to 1 hour. This varies depending on the needs of the client, but no session is ever rushed and as much time as needed is taken.
How does Distance Reiki work? Distance Reiki takes place with the client in one location and the practitioner in another. A date and time is arranged, and at that time you find somewhere quiet where you won't be disturbed for an hour and lie down.Often a client is aware of something happening, but not always, and receives many of the same healing benefits as a hands on session.
As to how exactly Reiki can work at a distance is not so easy to explain, but experience and the feedback received from clients shows that many find it extremely beneficial.
How many sessions will I need? That varies from person to person and depends on your own situation. Some people come for a few sessions and others make it part of their self-care routine.
After your first appointment I will be able to advise if you would benefit from more sessions. It can take time before you notice any lasting effect from your Reiki and one or two appointments may not be enough. But it is always left to the client to decide whether or not Reiki is right for them and whether to continue treatment.
Can I combine it with other complementary therapies? Reiki combines well with many other therapies, both complementary and allopathic. It works particularly well with physical techniques such as osteopathy and shiatsu, supporting and working with them.
